Why Men Are Fashion Blind

Show me a man who dresses well and I'll show you a man who's wife, girlfriend, or mother buys his clothes. Now that may not apply to every guy, but I would bet that it's true 9 out of 10 times. Guys just don't get into fashion like the gals do and it shows. When you see any well-dressed guy, even if there's no female influence, chances are the sales person picked out their clothing. You can't really blame the guys for a couple of reasons. The first is they never watch commercials, read fashion magazines, go window-shopping, or talk about clothes much. Most men hate going shopping for anything they can't find in a hardware or sporting goods store.

I think it's in the male genes, there are most likely 2 or 3 genes that protect against any shopping or fashion interest. Color and style really never enter a conversation unless it's about cars, motorcycles, or barbecue grills. To most men there are the three primary colors, no azure blue or winter green are seen let alone recognized.

There are exceptions when a guy may have a lot of money to throw around but that's not based on style. If he wears an Armani suit, chances are he's just shopping in a more expensive store. It's more a sing of success than of fashion sense when a guy goes designer clothes.

When a guy goes clothes shopping he usually walks in and goes directly to the section of interest, picks two or three colors and checks out. Done in 15 minutes if at all possible. Most guys don't even try on the clothes unless they think they may have jumped a size.

Just go over to the men's department in any department store and watch a guy buy a suit. If he's replacing something worn out, he'll go for the same color and design. If he wants something new, he'll look for a different color (any color will do that he doesn't have). He lets the sales person go find him a shirt and tie that go with the new suit.

This is a guy who'll go into a sporting goods store and spend two hours looking for a new fishing reel or pair of binoculars. Look at riding lawn mowers for weeks and go to several different stores to check out each one. When it comes to clothes, he's in and out in less than 20 minutes.

You can even see it in the selections in most men's departments. They may have 6 or 8 eight different types of slacks, shirts, and sport coats, whatever. Glance over at the woman's department and you'll see acres of different styles, colors, and outfits to fit any occasion. That's because the retailers understand the difference.

In fact most men won't even think about getting new clothes unless his wife, girlfriend, mother tells him too. Guys were their clothes until they fall off or are totally worn out. A good example of the problem is shoes. Just look at a guys shoes and you'll see what I mean.

Speaking of shoes, how many shoes do most guys have? Probably a couple pair of dress shoes, two or three pair of sneakers or equivalent, maybe some hunting or and cowboy boots. Look in any women's closet and you'll see rows and rows of shoes, every style and color. A man may have up to 10 pair total, most women have five times that amount.

Like I mentioned, it's in the genes. So women, don't pick on your husband, boyfriend, or son about his lack of fashion sense. He can't help it. If you want him to dress better, you better realize that you need go with him next time he goes shopping. Which may be a long time unless you point it out to him.
